Audition Instructions
Thank you for joining us for FRTC’s Matilda this summer! We are so excited to see the energy and enthusiasm the students bring to the auditions! Auditions will be at Parker Performing Arts School from 1 PM-4 PM on Saturday, May 18. We are accepting video auditions until Thursday, 5/16, at 5 PM!
Students should be registered for Matilda prior to auditions. Everyone registered for this show will be cast in the production. However, if a student does not wish to audition, they may forgo the audition process and will be placed in the ensemble.
For auditions, please prepare 2-3 of the audition tracks found below. Students can sing any of the songs they like, regardless of the character. We will ask each auditioner to sing one of their selections. Should we need to hear more, we will ask for additional songs they have prepared. Auditions will be 3-5 minutes long. There will be no callbacks or dance call.
If any students have questions or comments about the casting, they may contact the directors but we ask that they wait at least 48 hours before doing so.
If you have any other questions regarding auditions please contact us, by emailing us at [email protected]
An important note on the PDFs: For each song there is a .pdf file that contains the sheet music for the audition cut. There is intentionally a bar or two of music before the singing starts to provide some time for your ear to acclimate to the key of the song. Sometimes there are multiple parts singing during a cut - don’t worry about any parts except for the main melody (which might switch from character to character in some songs). If there are harmonies listed, sing any of the notes!
An important note on the MP4 tracks: Look at the "Reference Tracks" document for a complete list (and link) to reference recordings of each audition song. This document is complete with timestamps for the beginning and end of each audition cut. We recommend listening to the Reference Tracks to become comfortable with the song before moving toward the Audition Track.
